Father Adam of Monastery Daily Photo and Merisi of Vienna for Beginners, reminded me that today is the Feast of St. Stephen. This brought back a memory of the same day 20 years ago, when my husband and I spent Christmas holidays in Salzburg and Vienna. On the chilly morning of 26th, we found ourselves by St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna, and joined many Viennese and tourists inside for St. Stephen's Day Mass. Outside on Stephansplatz, a Romanian Dixieland Jazz band was celebrating the overthrow of the oppressive dictator Ceauşescu and the fall of communism in their country.

Funny how there is so much discussion about the Ceausescu trial at the moment.
I remember this from my childhood, I lived in Vienna for a while... the Stephansdom is a beauty.
