A Blogger "Blog of Note" late last year was "Faces in Places". I thought the idea a lot of fun. I also love the new commercial with happy faces in places, but the advertising failed on me since I don't recall what it's selling.

Lunch at Jongewaard’s Bake 'n Broil - Long Beach, CA

Bake 'n Broil is a traditional American diner with really good food and very reasonable prices. The place is small and gets very crowded - for a reason. The decor especially in the front room is so lovely.

This is my favorite meal - quiche of the day, with a bran muffin and side salad.

My friend had a tastly Cajun chicken sandwich.

The restaurant is located on Atlantic Ave. at corner of 36th St.

My mother-in-law was a native of Rye and graduated from Rye HS in 1942. I had a chance to visit Rye last summer.

The Rye Reading Room (the library) had old issues of The Rye Chronicle. The high school opened in 1931.

My mother-in-law is in the 1st column, 5th row.

During the nation's bicentennial and my senior year of High School, my friends and I would often drive down from Northeast LA to eat breakfast late at night at The Pantry. We'd act tough, worldly and grown up. I still act very tough and grown up - but I haven't been to The Pantry in years.

The 1930's Warner Grand is located at 478 West 6th Street in San Pedro. The ad (Grand Vision) for resotration of the Grand to its former splendor was hung above a store front of the adjacent building, looking across at this wonderful old wall and gate.

Ice in the Punchbowl - Pearblossom, CA

Ice Ring - 7 March 2009

At the end of the Loop Trail hike at Devil's Punchbowl Natural Area, I found this ice ring that formed on the ground (I cannot remember in what) and I hung it up. I think the set-up turned out rather picturesque.

The rangers offer various activities at the Punchbowl, including monthly Full Moon evening hikes and a San Andreas Fault tour every Sunday at 1 pm.
